Participatory generative artwork
Ginkgo Nuclearis
Plant your leaf. Let it grow.
Ginkgo Nuclearis is a participatory and collective generative artwork dedicated to world peace.
The ginkgo biloba is one of the oldest trees on the planet, a survivor. In Hiroshima, a few weeks after the atomic explosion, ginkgos began to sprout again at the foot of the ruins. They were here before the dinosaurs. They will be here after us. This is the tree we chose as a symbol.
In this project, every visitor is invited to grow a ginkgo in ASCII, that raw and universal typography that recalls the early days of computing, when art was born from simple characters. Together, the contributions form a living tree, in perpetual growth, nourished by hands from around the world.
Around the tree, the flags of each contributor accumulate, a constellation of nations, cultures, and different languages, all gathered around a single gesture. The ASCII world map scrolls in the background, a reminder that this tree belongs to no country in particular, but to all.
When the tree reaches maturity, a message of peace is revealed, generated by all the voices that participated, in every language, woven from what the contributors planted.
Ginkgo Nuclearis is proof that something can endure. That art can grow from ashes. That thousands of strangers can, without knowing each other, build something beautiful.
Plant your leaf. Let it grow.
